Assembly Speaker Rendon Endorses Luna for LA County Sheriff
Long Beach – California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon has endorsed former Long Beach Police Chief Robert Luna to become the next Sheriff for Los Angeles County.
“I’m proud to endorse Robert Luna for LA County Sheriff,” said Speaker Rendon. “As Long Beach Police Chief, Robert Luna was very effective at reducing crime and building trust with the community. Chief Luna is the law enforcement leader we need as our next Sheriff to keep our communities safe, help address homelessness.”
As Police Chief, Luna led the Long Beach Police Department towards community-centered police policies and practices modeled by the Task Force on 21st Century Policing established by President Obama. The department implemented more than 100 policy changes that improved public safety and reduced officer involved shootings and citizen complaints.
Luna is the only candidate in the race who comes from outside the Sheriff’s Department, led the police department of one of California’s largest cities, and worked with law enforcement agencies across the nation on the Executive Board of the Major City Chiefs Association.
“I’m honored to receive Speaker Anthony Rendon’s powerful endorsement in my campaign for LA County Sheriff,” Chief Luna said. “Speaker Rendon has been an essential leader for our state and region, and if elected Sheriff, I look forward to partnering with him to reduce crime, improve the community’s relationship with law enforcement and address homelessness.”
Speaker Rendon joins Congressmember Alan Lowenthal, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, State Senator Lena Gonzalez, State Assemblymember Lisa Calderon, State Assemblymember Luz Rivas and many other community leaders and organizations in endorsing Luna’s campaign for Sheriff.
